Chain Stitch
The chain stitch is by far my “go-to” stitch!
Below, you will find detailed directions on how to complete the chain stitch. (Please note that there are several different ways to complete the chain stitch; I’m modeling the way that works best for me.) At the end of this tutorial, you can watch a video where I model the chain stitch!
Step One
To complete the chain stitch, bring your needle up through the back of your fabric at point A.
Step Two
Begin to bring the needle back down at the same point A, but leave a loop at the top.
Step Three
Bring your needle up one stitch length ahead, at point B, and through the inside of the loop you’ve just created. Then, pull your embroidery floss semi-tight to secure the loop.
Step Four
Bring your needle down at the top of your loop at point C. This will secure the loop. (Essentially, you’ve just done the lazy daisy stitch!)
Step Five
Come up through your fabric one stitch below point A, at point D.
Step Six
Pull your thread through point D. Then, slide your needle under the loop you’ve created.
Step Seven
Bring your needle back down through point D.
Step Eight
Repeat steps five through seven until you’ve completed your chain.
